We are carrying out archaeological survey in front of St Margaret’s Church in Rietberg-Neuenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany on behalf of the local urban planning service. Beneath the pavement, human bones were found since cemeteries were often located in the immediate vicinity of the temples not only in the Middle Ages, but also in Modern Times. Human remains unearthed near the surface will be buried again by the parish in the new cemetery. Bones at a lower depth will not be removed but precisely recorded and documented because future restructuring works will not reach this depth. The age of the bones is not possible to be directly determined as all the burials from deeper layers lack grave goods.
